Simon Communities
Jacob Fruitfield Food Group has been supporting the Dublin Simon Community Soup Run for a number of years. In 2009, this relationship formed the basis of a new initiative encouraging the food industry to supply food to Dublin Simon services, free of charge. Simon was lacking the storage facilities to accept bulk drop offs by well intentioned food companies, needed a more consistent and systematic approach. This led to the creation of the Food for Simon initiative.
A stock management system implemented by Jacob Fruitfield has enabled Dublin Simon to establish a basic ordering and stock control method with orders and deliveries fulfilled by BWG, and a group of 12 food companies in Ireland have committed to replenish, free of charge, the stock delivered to Simon. Critically this has the effect of giving Dublin Simon guaranteed volumes as and when they need them while also making it easier for companies to donate.
It is estimated that annual savings to Dublin Simon is approx €250,000.
